Mandarin Ducks |  Wire Mill Dam Porter Brook Sheffield  |  1 January 2020

What better way to start the new year than with a few Mandarin ducks so this morning that is exactly what I did.  I ventured to Porter Brook where Sheffield’s industrial heritage reveals itself through a number of mill ponds build alongside and using the water from the brook.  Wire Mill Dam is one of the ponds where for the last two or three years Mandarin ducks have started to breed successfully.  The male Mandarin ducks wear rather flamboyant plumage, while the females are far more reserved with their feathers but both are very cool ducks.  They are definitely in my top five ducks.

HERE are 21 Facts about Mandarin Ducks

While taking photographs of the ducks (more to come…) an old reggae classic came to mind and it made me smile when I looked at this photo…!

Happy New Year
